Local Football Game in Yekepa
Our team was invited to watch the game coached by one of the students at ABC. It was quite the social event for the town.

UN Compound in Yekepa
One of the surreal parts of visiting Liberia was traveling through the country-side and seeing ordinary delapidated buildings being used as military check-points for the UN. Machine gun turrets and all. This one was occupied by the Bangladeshi detachment.

Ranfel and Rueben
Taken at the Betty Jonah Orphanage in Yekepa, Liberia. Ranfel and Rueben eagerly escorted us through the grounds of the orphanages. This photo was taken after they showed us their "possum" they had caught. It looked like a big rat to me.

Even though it's out of focus it's one of my favorite pictures of the trip.

Locomotive Control Panel
Abandoned while practically brand-new during the war 15 years earliers this locomotive was left to rust in the rain forest.

Yekepa Trainyard
This was taken at the abandoned trainyard in Yekepa Liberia. It was operated by the Lamco mining company until the site was abandoned 15 years ago when civil war broke out in the region. This place was so facinating, it looked like something from a post-apocalytic movie, seeing the jungle reclaiming the area.

Derelict Locomotive
This picture was taken at the abandoned trainyard in Yekepa, Liberia. Little over a year old when it was abandoned, this locomotive has been sitting in the jungle rusting away for the last 15 years.

Abandoned Dump Truck At Loading Station
Taken and the abandoned Lamco Mine in Yekepa Liberia. Like the locomotives nearby all the equipment at the mine was stripped of anything worth salvaging.

Ore-Processing Pit
That giant spark-plug looking thing was about 25 down from where the picture was taken. This massive pit was where the processed the iron ore. We never saw the bottom of the pit it was pretty deep.
